Free TV.

I often read about how television is free because it is supported by the ads. Yet I, like most Americans, pay for cable television. So what exactly am I getting for free? Perhaps the broadcast networks should go after the cable companies for a share of their profits.

In fact I rarely watch the broadcast networks at all. And product placement is fast replacing the traditional 30 second spot. So what exactly is all the fuss over a rapidly dying model?

CBS made a huge fuss over getting Katie Couric, spending millions of dollars to do so. By comparison it would seem that Comedy Central go a huge bargain in Jon Stewart and the Daily Show, and at the same time attracted a much more desirable demographic, given that my kids get most of their news that way.
