AT&T To Buy Verizon.
Having read the news today that AT&T plans to merge with BellSouth, I wonder just how long it will be before my headline comes to pass.
As Om Malik asserts, the merger with get a lot of scrutiny from consumer groups, given that US competition has been reduced to effectively two companies, both of whom want to remake the internet to suit them.
AT&T was broken up into Regional Bell Operating Companies years ago through anti-trust action because it had become a monopoly. It will be interesting to see how the government deals with the rapidly approaching return of that scenario.
